289 High Performance Mustang

Welcome!

I've created this website as a dedication to my most passionate hobby - vintage Mustangs. I was 14 when I first developed an interest in 'old' Mustangs.  The closer I became to driving, the greater that interest grew.  Nowadays, it is my obsession.

The story of how I got into Mustangs.

I was 15, and on the lookout for my first car.  For years I’d seen a cool looking Mustang that was white with blue stripes. I did a little bit of research and found out that it was a ’65 “Shelby” (more research indicated it was just a clone, but it was still a cool car). It’d been sitting in the owner’s driveway for so long that all four tires were flat.  I stopped by seven or eight times to see if I could talk to the owner. I finally got a hold of him and to see if he wanted to sell, because I wanted to buy.  He blew me off and finally came back with an outrageous figure for the car, so I had to pass.

I still wanted a classic Mustang and was determined to own one.  My brother spotted a 1966 Coupe for sale a few weeks later and gave me the number. Later that night my father and I went to look at it. When we got there, the owner had told us it was already sold…  We asked if we could still drive it and check it out (in the pitch black). We offered $200 more than the other buyer’s offer and the car was mine.  Knowing what I know now about Mustangs, I would’ve never bought the car at night and in the dark.  Luckily, the car was in decent condition and never gave me any problems as a daily driver for two years.  Shortly after moving to Seattle, I retired it from daily driver status and began a complete restoration.  Currently, I’m in the process of converting it into a Group II/Trans Am replica. My ’66 Coupe led me to purchase several other vintage mustangs over the years. My dream has been to buy and own a real 65/66 Shelby but alas it’s not in my budget. So I began looking for a Hi-Po Fastback around 2001. I found a few here and there but there were always issues with them. I gave up and focused on other projects.

As my luck would have it, I finally found the 1966 “K code” Mustang Fastback that I’d been looking for. I was able to buy it from the original owners whose story is told on the following pages.

These vintage cars have given me respect, and appreciation for an era before my time. Enjoy the site.
